Four forest workers were killed and four were injured while extinguishing a fire in Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary under Civil Soyam Forest Division in Almora district of Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Officials gave this information on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Binsar Range One 'beat' officer Trilok Singh Mehta, 'fire watcher' Karan Arya, Provincial Armed Constabulary jawan Puran Singh and daily wage employee Diwan Ram, he said.

According to Civil Soyam Forest Divisional Officer Dhruv Singh Martolia, the incident occurred around 3.45 pm when eight forest personnel were sent to extinguish the fire that broke out in the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary.

Martolia said that as soon as the team got down from their vehicle, the fire increased due to strong winds and four workers burnt to death. Meanwhile, other employees were injured and were taken to Haldwani Base Hospital for treatment.In a post on Twitter, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, "Very heart-wrenching news has been received about the death of 4 forest personnel due to forest fire in Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary. In this hour of grief, our government extends condolences to the families." Standing with." An ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh has been announced for the family of each deceased.

In a high level meeting with the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary and Chief Conservator of Forests (HOFF), instructions were given to immediately control the forest fire in Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary by spraying water on the affected forest with the help of Air Force. Like before, helicopters and other necessary resources are being used in the area and the fire can be controlled as soon as possible.,

Special Secretary to the Chief Minister, Shri Parag Madhukar Dhakate said that the situation is being closely monitored. The post-mortem of the deceased is being conducted.

Last month, a resin factory in Almora district was engulfed in a forest fire and three workers were killed while trying to douse the fire.

Due to hot and dry weather, fires have started breaking out again in the forests of Uttarakhand. According to the Uttarakhand forest fire bulletin, seven incidents were reported in the last 24 hours, affecting 4.50 hectares of forest.
