Haridwar, Uttarakhand: An elderly voter in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, threw the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) on the ground on Friday, demanding voting through ballot paper. Police gave this information.

He said the EVM was slightly damaged but was not replaced as it continued to function.

Police said that 70-year-old Randhir was taken into custody after receiving information about the incident at booth number 126 of Jwalapur Inter College polling centre.

He said that when it was his turn to vote, he picked up the EVM and threw it on the ground, shouting that he opposed EVMs and elections should be conducted only through ballot papers, adding that it was suspected that the person was mentally disturbed. Is ill.

Jwalapur Deputy Superintendent of Police Shantanu Parashar said Randhir was released after a few hours of custody and added that the EVMs, which had malfunctioned, continued to function and voting took place.

He said, no complaint was lodged with the police against Randhir by the polling officials.

A person present at the booth said Randhir picked up the EVM and threw it, leaving polling officials and people stunned.
