Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi directed to take strict action in cases of fake birth and death certificates.

Raturi also ordered to simplify the process of registration of births and deaths for the public.

The chief secretary told the officials that birth and death certificate is an important document for various central and state government schemes such as school admission, widow's pension, life insurance, etc.

"To get this, sometimes families fall into the trap of scammers and get fake certificates in exchange for a huge amount and then have to face difficulties. Apart from this, many cases of fake websites similar to the official Government website of India Requests for registration of births and deaths have also come to light," he said during a meeting with officials.

He also appealed to the public to beware of these scammers and contact the registrar in their area just to get the certificate. He added that the Government of India has launched a new portal to prevent false cases of registration of births and deaths and simplify and strengthen the registration process for the general public.

"Through this, any member of the family can request the registration of a birth or death in the family by creating their ID on the portal from home. To do this, you will only need an email and a mobile number. After completing the application, the applicant may also check the status of his or her application at any time. The application is accepted and a digital certificate is issued when the registrar concerned is satisfied with the documents attached to the application. A copy of this digital certificate is also issued. available immediately on the email id provided by the applicant, which can be downloaded and used at any time," Raturi said.

The Principal Secretary emphasized that since this is for the general public, its proper publicity among the public is necessary and therefore the concerned department has been directed to take necessary action.

Earlier in the day, Chief Secretary Radha Raturi reviewed the birth and death registration work being carried out in the state with all concerned departments of the Secretariat.

Principal Secretary, Secretary Health and Family Welfare, Director Census, Additional Secretary Health and Family Welfare and officials of Directorate of Health, Panchayati Raj, Department of Revenue, Urban Development, Uttarakhand Medical Council, Directorate of Economics and Statistics and Directorate of Census Work, Government of India was also present at the meeting.
