The doors of Badrinath temple located in the Garhwal Himalayas in Dehradun, Uttarakhand were opened for devotees on Sunday after remaining closed during the winter season.

With the opening of the doors of the temple, the Chardham Yatra of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Gangotri has started.

Officials said the doors of the Badrinath temple were opened amid chanting of Veda mantras, puja and beating of drums and nagas.

Despite the rain, hundreds of devotees gathered at the temple premises, which was decorated with flowers, to witness the ceremony. The process of opening the doors started at 4 in the morning.

On this occasion, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami greeted the people.

On Friday, on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, the doors of Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Gangotri temples were opened for devotees.

According to official data, till 4 pm on Saturday, 7,37,885 people had registered online for Badrinath darshan. Last year, 18,39,591 people visited the temple.
