Pilgrimages to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district will be temporarily suspended from June 25, an official said on Monday.

Kumaon Mandal Development Corporation official LM Tiwari said the decision to temporarily suspend the yatra was taken amid fears that monsoon rains could disrupt pilgrimages to high-altitude sites.

Bookings for the journey will resume in September, the official said.

Adi Kailash rose to prominence last October after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Jolingkong, which offers a majestic view of the peak.

The yatra began on 13 May, with around 600 devotees making the pilgrimage.
