Dehradun: Three workers at a pine resin factory in Almora died of injuries they sustained while extinguishing a forest fire that had spread close to the factory. An official gave this information on Friday.

The daily bulletin issued by the Forest Department, giving data on the damage caused by forest fires in the state in the last 24 hours, said that another laborer injured in the incident is still undergoing treatment.

An Almora forest official said all the workers were from Nepal and were not part of the designated fire fighting teams.

He sustained burn injuries while struggling to extinguish a fire in the Gananat range of Almora forest division near his factory on Thursday and was undergoing treatment at the Base Hospital, Almora, the official said.A report from Nainital said that due to the forest fire, there is a haze in the tourist town.

Air pollution is also increasing which can cause health problems among residents.

Doctors say that this can increase the problems of patients already suffering from asthma and bronchitis.

Dr MS Dugtal, a senior doctor at a government hospital, said air pollution can aggravate asthma and lung problems in children as well as the elderly.

He said the smoke visible everywhere from Nainital to Haldwani could be risky and people suffering from respiratory problems like chronic bronchitis and asthma are advised to take their medicines regularly and not stop unless necessary. Avoid going out.Dr. Dugtal also advised people to use air purifiers in their homes and wear face masks when going out.

According to the data, 64 new incidents of forest fire were reported from different parts of the state in the last 24 hours, in which 74.67 hectares of forest land was destroyed.

Since November 1 last year, there have been 868 incidents of fire in Uttarakhand, in which more than 1,000 hectares of forest land has been burnt to ashes.

Of the total fire incidents, 456 have been recorded in Kumaon and 344 in Garhwal, the forest fire bulletin said.
