Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday planted sandalwood sapling at his official residence on the occasion of World Environment Day and his birthday.

The Chief Minister also shared a message on The government is serving with full commitment for the protection and promotion of Mother Earth and Nature."

Additional Chief Secretary (Chief Minister) SP Goyal, Additional Chief Secretary (Forest/Environment) Manoj Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary (Chief Minister) Sanjay Prasad and DGP Prashant Kumar were present in the program.Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign on World Environment Day.

Under this campaign, he has urged people to plant a tree in the coming days to pay tribute to his mother.

The Prime Minister today planted a Peepal tree at Buddha Jayanti Park in the national capital. He was also accompanied by Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav and Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena.

He also requested the participants to share a photo of themselves planting a tree using the hashtag #Plant4Mother.

"Happy to launch a campaign today on World Environment Day," he posted on Instagram.

"I call on everyone in India and across the world to plant a tree in the coming days as a tribute to their mother," the PM said in a post on Instagram.Share a photo of yourself doing so using #Plant4Mother." She also highlighted the need to protect the environment and shared her tree planting experience and encouraged others to do the same.

World Environment Day, celebrated on 5 June, marks the beginning of the 1972 Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. This year's theme is "Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience".
