National, June 18, 2024: Strengthening its education ties with India, Lehigh University, one of the most prestigious private research universities in the United States, hosted its first event in the country, Building Futures Workshop.

Underscoring the University's vision of building an innovative mindset, skill set and creative thinking capacity, the Building Futures Workshop held in Mumbai hosted entrepreneurial activities for student attendees.The sessions helped students tackle real-world problems with creativity and generate bold new ideas to make an impact on communities and institutions.

The workshop was a step towards the University's commitment to India to pursue student recruitment programs and new University partnerships. Furthermore, it empowered and supported teachers and students to navigate the complexities of the college admissions process and address the unique challenges they face in the dynamic international education sector.

The two-day workshop saw participation from select mentors and students from across India, and comprehensive sessions led by senior leadership from Lehigh University. Workshop topics ranged from identifying ways to write effective recommendation letters, supporting students' mental health within educational settings, to fostering practical vision among students through entrepreneurial activities.Speaking at the event, Dr. Cheryl Matherly, Vice President and Vice Provost for International Affairs, Lehigh University, said, “The United States and India have a long-standing bilateral relationship and education is a strong pillar. We strive to strengthen relationships through collaboration with leading Indian institutions and universities, to encourage and promote student exchange programs at Lehigh and to create cross-institutional research opportunities for faculty and students from both countries. We are looking to increase student enrollment from India this year. And the Building Futures Workshop program is an important step towards strengthening our global partnership and support for students and mentors. We believe that initiatives like this are important in helping students achieve their academic and personal goals.,

Lehigh University has partnered with leading Indian institutions and universities to encourage and promote student exchange programs and create cross-institutional research opportunities for faculty and students from both countries.

Current partnerships include Ashoka University to facilitate student exchange programmes, cross institutional research, entrepreneurial opportunities; SRM University is offering the opportunity to selected students to conduct experiential summer research at Lehigh University; IIT Kharagpur for projects related to mountaintop/creative inquiry; and IIT Bombay for bilateral student exchange programme..
