Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], The second day of the Tamil Nadu Assembly session began in Chennai on Friday with a ruckus as black-clad AIADMK legislators raised slogans inside the House over the Kallakurichi liquor tragedy.

Speaker Appavu directed the guard and hall staff, who carry out security duties inside the Assembly, to evict the AIADMK MLAs from the Assembly hall.

Footage from outside the Assembly showed guard and floor staff escorting AIADMK members outside. Outside the Assembly there were many police personnel.

Chaos erupted both inside and outside the Tamil Nadu Assembly in Chennai as AIADMK members raised slogans demanding a debate on the Kallakurichi illicit liquor tragedy in which at least 47 people have lost their lives.

Yesterday's State Assembly session ended with the tribute to those who died due to consuming spurious liquor in Kallakurichi. The legislators also paid tributes to 17 former legislators and deceased DMK MLA Pugazhenthi. They also paid tribute to the victims of the Kuwait fire, among whom were seven people from Tamil Nadu. State Assembly Speaker Appavu read the obituary after which the members fell silent to pay their respects.

The Assembly session is scheduled to continue until June 29.

Earlier today, three accused in the Kallakurichi illicit liquor case were sent to 15 days judicial custody and shifted to Cudallore central prison. Earlier, the Kallakurichi police produced the accused before the combined district court.

Three accused named Govindaraj, Damadoran and Vijaya were sent to 15 days of judicial custody till July 5 by district court judge Sriram. The accused were sent to Cudallore central prison.

Since June 19 afternoon, at least 47 people lost their lives in the state's Kallakurichi district after consuming illicit liquor on Tuesday night, Tamil Nadu Director of Medical Education Sangumani said.

More than 100 were hospitalized after suspected illicit liquor consumption, authorities said.

The Tamil Nadu government had ordered a judicial inquiry into the tragedy. The probe will be headed by retired Madras High Court judge Justice B Gokuldas. Judge Gokuldas will submit a report within three months.

The CB-CID of Tamil Nadu Police, which was tasked with investigating the tragedy, launched an investigation under the leadership of SP Shantharam.

Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of each of the deceased victims, and those undergoing treatment will receive Rs 50,000 each.

The victims are undergoing treatment at Kallakurichi Government Medical College and Hospital and hospitals in Salem, Villupuram and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) in Puducherry.
