The transaction volume in June was Rs 20.07 lakh crore, which is 1.9 percent less than Rs 20.45 lakh crore in May.

Transaction volume increased by 36 percent on a year-on-year basis.

The average daily transaction amount reached Rs 66,903 crore, while the average daily transaction count in June was 463 million. UPI numbers in the month of May were the highest in terms of value and volume since UPI came into existence in 2016.

In June, Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) transaction volume declined 7 percent to 517 million, compared to 558 million in May.

Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) volumes rose 11 per cent to 100 million in June, compared to 90 million in May and 95 million in April.

Earlier in the day, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) joined Project Nexus with four ASEAN countries to create a platform to facilitate instant cross-border retail payments.

Conceived by the Innovation Hub of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), Nexus aims to connect India's UPI with the faster payment systems of ASEAN members, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
