Sultanpur (UP), three children drowned in Gomti river while bathing here. Police gave this information on Friday.
The incident took place in Barua area on Thursday when Farhan (12), Abid (10), Hasnain (13) and some other friends had gone to the river, he said.
While bathing, the three boys got trapped in the waves. He told that seeing this his friends started calling for help and passersby reached the spot.
After receiving the information, district and police officers also reached the spot.
Inspector Shriram Pandey said local divers searched for the boys till 11 pm, but could not locate them.
He said that a team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) from Ayodhya was deployed for the rescue operation on Friday morning and after an hour of effort, the bodies were pulled out of the river.
He said that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
