Sambhal (UP), Six cows died and several fell ill after allegedly eating contaminated millet at a government cow shelter here. Officials gave this information on Wednesday.

He said that after the incident, two officers were suspended on charges of negligence.

District Magistrate Dr. Rajendra Paisian said that the health of many cows suddenly deteriorated after allegedly eating contaminated millet in a government cow shed in Sharifpur village of Sambhal police station area.

Six of these cows died and several fell ill and are undergoing treatment, Pesian said.

He told that Gram Panchayat Officer Saurabh Singh and Shivam of Animal Husbandry Department have been suspended with immediate effect.

The District Magistrate said that explanations have also been sought from four other officers including the Block Development Officer and if they are found guilty, strict action will be taken against them also.

He said that samples of dead cows have been sent to Bareilly-based Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) for testing.

The real cause of his death will be known after investigation, Pesian said.
