Rae Bareli (UP), Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday offered prayers at a Hanuman temple in Churwa on his way to his parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli, the party said.

Gandhi, the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, will meet party workers and local residents of his constituency during his one-day visit, a Congress functionary said.

After landing at Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport, Gandhi left for Rae Bareli by road. Rae Bareli is about 80 km from the state capital.

While going to Rae Bareli, he stopped at Churva temple near Bachhrawan and had darshan of Lord Hanuman.

"Rahul Gandhi performed puja at Churva Hanuman temple and prayed to Lord Hanuman for the happiness, peace and prosperity of the country," the Congress party said on Twitter.

A local party leader said Gandhi reached Bhumau Guest House, where he will meet party workers, delegations and local people.

He said he would also meet the family members of Kirti Chakra winner Captain Anshuman Singh.

In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, Gandhi won the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat by a margin of more than 3.90 lakh votes. After winning the elections, he along with party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra held a meeting with the workers.
