Mathura (UP), A man found allegedly cooking meat near the steps of a temple here was beaten up by some devotees and later arrested, police said on Friday.
He told that this incident happened on Thursday evening at Ladli Mandir in Barsana city.
Police said Sanjay, a native of Rajasthan, had been living in Barsana for the last few years and used to beg in and around the temple area.
Inspector Arvind Nirwal said, "He was booked under Indian Penal Code section 295 (desecrating a place of worship) and sent to judicial custody."
According to the police, Sanjay was beaten up by some people on Thursday evening when they found him cooking meat near the temple. Police said that they later handed him over to the police.
