This comes after complaints of illegal mining in the state.

According to a government spokesperson, satellite surveillance will be used to keep an eye on illegal mining areas and vehicles involved in illegal mining will be tracked using Vehicle Tracking System (VTS). Also, brick kilns will be identified through remote sensing.

According to Mining Department officials, several proposals have been prepared to strengthen technical measures to prevent illegal mining and transportation. The most important among these are VTS and remote sensing.

VTS will enable real-time tracking of vehicles transporting minerals. It will also ensure that e-conveyance permit (required for mineral transportation) is issued only when the vehicle is present in the geo-fenced mining area.

A proposal to implement VTS has been received from UPDESCO.

Remote sensing will also be used to prevent illegal mining and transportation. A remote sensing lab has already been set up at the directorate level, which will generate satellite imagery to identify new mining areas and flag illegal mining activities.

Brick kilns will also be identified through remote sensing. There are 15,444 registered brick kilns in the state. Officials said drone surveys will be conducted to survey mining areas and monitor approved mining areas.

The department is also planning to increase the number of vehicles used for enforcement. At present, the vehicles are sanctioned for enforcement operations only in 55 districts. The proposal for approval of vehicles will be sent soon to all the districts. Additionally, he said, deputies will wear uniforms during enforcement actions.
