Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh government will launch an awareness campaign to promote the Centre's 'PM Surya Ghar Yojana' - a rooftop solar subsidy scheme - in Ayodhya, Varanasi and Gorakhpur.

The new initiative will add to the state's ongoing programs and schemes to promote the production and use of solar energy.

This campaign will be based on Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) module. In line with the vision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Agency (UPNEDA) has started implementing the action plan, according to an official statement.

The state government has allocated Rs 2 crore for the two-month-long campaign and has started the process of involving an agency to manage and implement the initiative.

Initially, UPNEDA will run a campaign in three major cities including Ayodhya, Varanasi and Gorakhpur to increase public awareness and acceptability about the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana and boost the number of beneficiaries under the scheme, the statement said.

Promotional activities will include displaying banners, installing billboards at strategic locations, setting up booth camps and distributing pamphlets during various programs in universities, colleges and schools.

Apart from this, UPNEDA will also use radio and newspaper advertisements in Ayodhya, Gorakhpur and Varanasi.

The statement said Ayodhya and Varanasi are already being developed as solar cities and this massive campaign will now pave the way to promote and raise awareness about solar energy in Gorakhpur as well.

According to officials, a solar city can meet at least 10 percent of its energy demand from solar energy.
