Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], The Yogi government is set to initiate new measures in Uttar Pradesh to safeguard farmers' crops.

Under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, implementation of Technology-based Yield Estimation System (YES-TECH) will begin across the state.

At the same time, efforts are being made to improve crop monitoring and maintenance through the Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS).

In particular, a comprehensive strategy was designed to protect the state's crops from seasonal adversities, ensure crop insurance for farmers and strengthen crop inspections at the Gram Panchayat level. The Department of Agriculture has begun the process of appointing a Technology Implementation Partner (TIP) to execute the YES-TECH initiative statewide.

The Agriculture Department has started the process of collecting data related to crops of Rabi and Kharif seasons in 75 districts of the state. For RWBCIS through the YES-TECH process, currently the focus is mainly on wheat and rice crops. The data collection will cover the years 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26 and will be combined according to the YES-TECH-2023 Manual.

After the development of the module, other insured crops can also be linked to it. The evaluation report will be prepared according to the evaluation periods of a total of 5 seasons, including the Mid-Season Report (MSR) and the End-of-Season Report (ESR). To complete all these processes, the Technology Implementation Partner (TIP) will implement machine learning and artificial intelligence modules.

As per CM Yogi's vision, emphasis is being laid on ensuring crops at the Gram Panchayat level in all districts and providing insurance cover to farmers. With this, the government aims to extend the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

Furthermore, the process of benefiting farmers through RWBCIS has also been initiated. In this process, crops like banana, chilli and betel leaf have been prioritized as Kharif crops, and tomato, capsicum, peas and mango as Rabi crops.

The final dates for crop insurance are June 30 for banana and betel leaf, July 31 for chili, November 30 for tomato, pepper and peas, and December 15 for the handle.
