Noida, Uttar Pradesh government on Friday asked officials to ensure that commercial operations of Noida International Airport begin in December this year.

State Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra issued the directions after a review meeting with concerned officials and a physical inspection of the airport site in Jewar area of ​​Gautam Buddh Nagar.

Development of the first of the four phases of the project is underway.

The chief secretary's visit came immediately after airport developer Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) boosted commercial operations till April 2025 from the earlier projected date of September 29, 2024.

YIAPL is a special purpose vehicle of Zurich Airport International AG, the concessionaire of the UP government's greenfield mega project.

During the review meeting, YIAPL informed the chief secretary that contractor Tata Projects is working on the completion of the ATC (air traffic control) building.

"The building will be handed over to the Airport Authority of India for installation of ATC equipment in August, and the installation will be completed by September," according to an official statement.

Electrical lighting work is currently being carried out on the runway and platform. Navigation equipment, including the glide path antenna and localizer, has already been installed near the runway, he said.

"The chief secretary directed the concerned officials that all the equipment to be installed by the Airport Authority of India should be completed by September... He directed them that the development of the airport should be completed on time by September 2024, and commercial operations should be completed on time." start in December," the statement said.

During the inspection of the terminal building, the concessionaire informed the chief secretary that the façade and roof work is being carried out, and the completion work on the pier has begun.

The installation of an automated baggage handling system is also moving forward, according to the statement.

Noida Airport and YIAPL CEO Christoph Schnellmann, COO Kiran Jain, Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) CEO Arun Vir Singh and Nodal Project Officer Shailendra Bhatia, among others, They briefed Mishra about the developments related to the project.

The meeting also addressed issues related to security, communications, navigation and surveillance systems for air traffic management and the DGAC (aviation regulator), with the participation of officials from the respective central agencies.

The chief secretary asked the dealership to ensure that all departmental requirements and regulations are met and that any issues are resolved by September, the statement said.

"Commercial operations of the airport should begin in December under all circumstances," Mishra said.

Further, the chief secretary directed YIAPL to submit a turnaround plan by July 15 after a meeting with representatives of Tata Projects, the statement added.
