Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakhs each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured following the tragic stampede in Hathras.

Earlier in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, a stampede at a religious event left 50 to 60 people dead.

Expressing deep regret over the incident, the Chief Minister ordered a thorough investigation.

He also directed the officials to form a team under the leadership of ADG, Agra and Commissioner Aligarh to investigate the causes of the accident.

CM Adityanath is personally monitoring the situation and has sent two ministers, the chief secretary and the DGP to the spot.

An FIR will be lodged against the organizers of the show and the administration is gearing up to take major steps in response to the tragedy.

Earlier in the day, Hathras DM Ashish Kumar confirmed the rise in the death toll from 27 to around 5 to 60. He said: "...The district administration is investigating the matter. The injured are being taken to the hospital and people are still recovering... Doctors have informed me of a death toll of almost 50 to 60... Permission for the event to take place was granted by the SDM and it was a private event ...A high-level committee has been formed to investigate the matter...The main focus of the administration is to provide all possible help to the injured and family members of the deceased..."

Union Minister Rajnath Singh and Biju Janata Dal president Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday expressed condolences following the tragic incident in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, where a stampede at a religious event led to the death of 50-60 people. .

Expressing condolences to the deceased, the Union Minister termed the accident as "extremely painful".

"The accident that occurred in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh is extremely painful. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families of those who lost their loved ones in this accident," Singh said.
