Moradabad (UP): The body of a 27-year-old assistant professor with "knife marks on the neck" was recovered from a private university here on Monday, police said.

Police said that prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide.

Superintendent of Police (City) Akhilesh said that the body of Dr. Aditi Mehrotra (27), working as an assistant professor in the Pathology Department of Tirthankar Mahavir University (TMU), located on Delhi Road, was found in a room of the guest house. Bhadoria.

On receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and took the body into their custody, Bhadoria said, adding that there were knife marks on his neck.

He said the body was later sent for post-mortem and the family was informed.

Bhadoria said, initial investigation shows that it is a case of suicide but the actual cause of death can be confirmed only after post-mortem.

He said that the forensic team is collecting evidence from the spot.

Police said Mehrotra, a resident of Haryana's Rewari district, joined the university on June 16 this year and since then she has been living in the guest house on the campus.

As soon as the news of Mehrotra's death was heard, the family reached Moradabad from Rewari.

Her father Dr Navneet Mehrotra said that he had called her last night but she neither received the call nor called back.

Senior Superintendent of Police Satpal Antil also reached the spot. Officials said that further investigation in the matter is going on.
