In the four assembly by-elections in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, the ruling BJP and the main opposition party SP are tied and both the parties are leading on two seats each.

According to the Election Commission trends available at 3 pm, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates are leading in Lucknow East and Dadraul, while Samajwadi Party (SP) candidates are leading in Gainsari and Duddhi (SC) assembly constituencies.

In Lucknow East Assembly seat, BJP's OP Srivastava is leading over his nearest rival Mukesh Kumar of Congress by 75,581 votes.

Similarly, in Dadraul assembly seat of Shahjahanpur district, BJP's Arvind Kumar Singh is ahead of SP's Awadhesh Kumar Verma by 52,477 votes.

However, in Gansari assembly constituency of Balrampur district, SP's Rakesh Kumar Yadav is ahead of BJP's Shailesh Kumar Singh 'Shailu' by 5,096 votes.

In Duddhi (SC) assembly seat of Sonbhadra district, SP's Vijay Singh is ahead of BJP's Sarwan Kumar by 27,882 votes.

Voting for all four assembly seats was held on May 13 in the fourth phase along with the Lok Sabha elections.There are 403 assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.

The by-election in Lucknow East assembly constituency was necessitated after the death of sitting MLA Ashutosh Tandon on November 9, 2023, at the age of 63. Tandon, a three-time MLA from the seat, was a cabinet minister in the first government of CM Yogi. Adityanath.

Dadraul Assembly seat had become vacant after the death of BJP MLA Manvendra Singh on January 5 after prolonged illness. He was 70 years old.

Singh, who was associated with Congress for a long time, joined BJP in 2017 and became MLA from Dadraul. He retained this seat in the 2022 elections.Similarly, Gainsari assembly constituency had fallen vacant after the demise of sitting SP MLA Shiv Pratap Yadav on January 26 at the age of 74. Yadav started his political career with Lok Dal and was a four-time MLA from Gainsari.

Duddhi assembly constituency, reserved for the Scheduled Tribe, had fallen vacant after BJP's Ramdular Gond was disqualified from the House following his conviction in a rape case. Gond was sentenced to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment in this case.

In December 2023, he was disqualified as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.According to the Representation of the People Act, an MLA sentenced to imprisonment of two years or more will be disqualified "from the date of such sentence" and will remain disqualified for the next six years after serving the sentence.
