Two people were burnt to death after a head-on collision between a tempo and a truck on Shambhua bridge in Kanpur (UP) on Sunday, police said.

He said that the deceased included tempo driver Puran Singh Lodhi (50) and businessman Ismail who came with him. Both were residents of Raisen in Madhya Pradesh.

After the incident, the truck driver and cleaner fled from the spot.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ravindra Kumar said, the tempo was going towards Sachendi to bring a consignment of mangoes when it had a head-on collision with a truck near the bridge.

DCP said that after getting information about the incident, the police reached the spot and conducted a rescue operation.
