New Delhi [India], Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Bhupendra Yadav today chaired a review meeting at the Forest Survey of India, Dehradun to review the management and mitigation of forest fires across the country.

The meeting was attended by DGF&SS, senior officials of the Ministry, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Uttarakhand and other officials of the State Forest Department. Director General of Forest Survey of India, Director General of ICFRE, Director of FRI and senior officials of these institutions were also present during the meeting, the ministry said in a statement.

The Union Minister reviewed the current situation of forest fire and its suppression in the country and stressed on formulating a concrete strategy for its suppression through public participation. He also reviewed the status of the forest fire warning system prevalent in the country.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that areas experiencing frequent fires year after year should be given high priority and states should find suitable ways to deal with them. Strengthening advance early warning systems and providing protective gear to frontline workers dealing with forest fires were also discussed, the statement said.
