Geneva [Switzerland], Union Health Secretary Apoorva Chandra held a bilateral meeting with Global Fund officials on the sidelines of WHO's 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva on Wednesday. Chandra appreciated the Global Fund's continued support for the eradication of three diseases in India – TB, HIV/AIDS and malaria. According to the press release of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, during the meeting Chandra urged the Global Fund to continue its support to the TB program to strengthen the capacities of public health systems. In a press release, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said, “The Union Health Secretary acknowledged and appreciated the continued support of the Global Fund for the elimination of three diseases in India, namely TB, HIV/AIDs and Malaria. Highlighted that the bulk of the investment is aimed at capacity building, technical support and strengthening the laboratory system of the programme, leading to better sustainability.During the meeting, the Global Fund appreciated India's commitment to eliminate TB through mass awareness generation, addressing stigma and intensive monitoring programs using digital technologies. According to Hekali Jhimomi, Additional Secretary, Union Health Ministry, it said Indian innovative practices in the TB program such as TrueNat machines, hand-operated X-ray equipment that can operate in harsh environments, are exemplary for the world at the meeting. India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Arindam Bagchi, and senior officials of the Union Health Ministry attended. Earlier, Union Health Secretary Apoorva Chandra outlined India's progress in digital health. He highlighted India's success in implementing digital public infrastructure at scale such as Aadhaar for digital identity, Unified Payment Interface (UPI) for financial transactions and effective healthcare delivery with CoWIN during the COVID-19 pandemic. He made this comment during a side event on Digital.At the health conference organized by QUA countries (India, Australia, US and Japan) on the sidelines of the 77th World Health Assembly, Apoorva Chandra emphasized the transformative role of digital health in contributing to universal health coverage, ensuring equitable and accessible healthcare . And achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3, i.e. good health and well-being) The Union Health Secretary said that COWIN is being converted into UWIN for the national vaccination programme. It will help in linking and providing vaccination records of every 30 million newborns and mothers. According to the press release of the Ministry of Health and Family, this year Anganwadi and School Health Records saw the participation of representatives from more than 100 countries, highlighting the collaborative efforts in advancing digital public infrastructure globally.
