Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 25: “CREDAI-MCHI congratulates the government on its third term and anticipates further financial measures to strengthen the economy under the current administration.

Mumbai, as a vital economic engine, must focus on comprehensive urban development, including infrastructure improvements and planning for future growth.

Since more than 50 per cent of real estate projects in Mumbai are redevelopment projects, the government should consider not imposing any GST on redevelopment projects. This step would ensure safer, better and more affordable housing for the citizens of Mumbai.

To address the validated demand of 11.2 million housing units, it is essential to redefine affordable housing for metropolitan cities like Mumbai. A uniform affordable housing criterion should be established for metropolitan and non-metropolitan cities, with no price cap, declaring all houses of 60 square meters as affordable housing. Furthermore, increasing tax exemptions on home loans and making the interest component of home loans tax-free under relevant sections of the IT Act are crucial steps towards making housing more affordable.

We expect the government to formulate financial policies in a democratic manner, ensuring that the diverse needs of all stakeholders are addressed.”
