Udupi (Karnataka): A 37-year-old undertrial died in Udupi jail, the official said.

He said that the case of deceased undertrial prisoner Anup Shetty was related to the murder of his business partner Ajendra Shetty in Kalawara village of Kundapur in July 2021.

According to officials, Anup initially went into hiding after allegedly killing Ajendra, but a few days later, Udupi police caught him in Goa.

On Saturday, Anoop was found unconscious in the jail cell and was immediately taken to the hospital. On reaching there the doctors declared him dead. The doctors who treated him said that the cause of death was suspected to be cardiac arrest.

Ajendra Shetty, a financier, met a gruesome end inside his office in Kalavara Kundapur taluk on the night of July 30. Her business partner, Anup, allegedly murdered her, for which he was arrested and put on trial.

Following Anoop's death in Udupi jail near Hiriyadka, the local Hiriyadka police have initiated an investigation under section 176 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

Based on the Kundapur court order, Anoop was kept in jail since August 6, 2021.

On May 11, at 2:45 pm, Anoop vomited and became unconscious. Jai staff immediately alerted jailer S A Shirol, who arranged for Anoop to be shifted to the district government hospital. However, doctors declared Anup dead.
