Noting that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the 1949 Geneva Conventions and the 25th anniversary of their progressive consideration of "the protection of civilians in armed conflict" as a thematic issue, the Security Council stressed " the enduring need" for the council and member states to redouble their efforts to strengthen the protection of civilians in armed conflict.

It called on the parties to the armed conflict to "adopt all appropriate measures to actively search for persons reported missing, allow the return of their remains, account for persons reported missing without adverse distinction, and establish appropriate channels that allow for the response and communication. with families in the search process", emphasizing that "maximum attention" must be paid to cases of children reported missing in armed conflicts.

The council urged parties to "collect, protect and manage all relevant data and documents on persons missing as a result of armed conflict" and called on states to take appropriate measures to "ensure thorough, prompt, impartial and effective." of crimes related to missing persons" according to national and international law.

In the presidential statement, the Security Council also highlighted the fundamental role of the International Committee of the Red Cross and its Central Tracing Agency in addressing the issue of missing persons, the need to include humanitarian elements in peace negotiations and agreements, and the role of Truth, Justice and Accountability Mechanisms in reconciliation and conflict resolution processes.
