Stephanie Kouri, Deputy Special Representative for Political Affairs for Libya, United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), issued a statement on Saturday on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.

Kory highlighted the "great hardship" facing Libyans due to the political impasse and economic decline, and said many Libyans have been driven into poverty despite abundant resources, Xinhua news agency reported.

"The Libyan people have endured a lot," Kory said, urging authorities to prioritize civilian welfare.

Pointing out that Eid represents sacrifice and reconciliation, the UN official called on all parties to "uphold the unity and sovereignty of Libya and achieve prosperity for all".

Cory also reiterated UNSMIL's commitment to support the resolution of the Libyan issue.

"UNSMIL is committed to working with all parties to end the crisis, preserve Libya's unity and sovereignty, and ensure a stable and prosperous future," the statement said.

Libya has been plagued by political division and instability since the 2011 uprising that ousted Muammar Gaddafi from power. The country is grappling with a fragile democratic transition amid ongoing security and economic challenges.
