"I am extremely concerned by the escalating situation between Lebanon and Israel," Turki told the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Tuesday.

The Turks also called for a halt to fighting and to do everything "to prevent a full-scale war".

Since the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip more than eight months ago, there have been daily military confrontations between Israeli forces and Hezbollah militias in Lebanon, as well as other groups in the border area between the countries.

According to the Turks, 401 people have already been killed in Lebanon and 25 in Israel. Thousands of people from both sides have been forced to leave their homes due to the conflict.

At the beginning of the summer session of the Human Rights Council, which lasts several weeks, Turki also lamented the number of more than 120,000 injured and dead in the Gaza war and the increase in armed violence around the world. "We urgently need to find a way to return to peace," he said.
