On Monday, Zelensky signed a bilateral security agreement with Spain that provided more than €1.1 billion ($1.2 billion) in aid for Kiev, including anti-aircraft missiles, Leopard tanks and ammunition.

The Ukrainian President is scheduled to visit Melsbroek Military Airport to brief him about the preparations for the supply of F-16 fighter planes by Belgium to Ukraine.

Belgium is one of the countries that has pledged to provide aircraft to Ukraine, which is facing attack from Russia after a full-scale invasion in February 2022.

The security agreement is based on a decision taken by NATO heads of government at a summit in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius in July.

There it was agreed that individual member states would enter into bilateral agreements to ensure the long-term security of Ukraine.

Britain, Germany and France reached an agreement with Kiev in January and February.

The agreements ensure that Ukraine will receive arms supplies and financial assistance to help bridge the gap until the country joins NATO.

Germany promised Ukraine that it would continue and expand its military support, including arms supplies and training of Ukrainian troops.

The US and Ukraine have not yet finalized their talks.
