Kochi, The Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), has placed an international order worth Rs 1,100 crore for eight 6,300 TDW dry cargo vessels.

CSL said it has won an international order from Wilson ASA, Norway, for the design and construction of four 6,300 TDW dry cargo vessels.

"An agreement was also entered into for four additional vessels of the same type, which will be formally contracted within September 19, 2024," according to a CSL statement.

CSL said the new order was a continuation of the contract awarded in June 2023 for the design and construction of six 3,800 TDW dry cargo vessels, which are now at advanced levels of construction at the Udupi shipyard in Karnataka.

"The vessel has a length of 100 meters and a deadweight of 6,300 metric tons with a design draft of 6.5 meters. The vessels will be designed by Conoship International, Netherlands, and will be built as an environmentally friendly diesel-electric vessel. environment for the transport of general cargo in Europe's coastal waters," said CSL.

He said the overall project of eight vessels was worth around Rs 1,100 crore and was to be executed by September 2028.

Wilson ASA, a company based in Bergen, Norway, is the leading operator of short sea fleets in Europe and transports around 15 million tonnes of dry cargo across Europe, CSL said.

The company operates a fleet of around 130 vessels, with capacities between 1,500 and 8,500 DWT.

Since the acquisition of the shipyard by Cochin Shipyard Limited, UCSL has successfully delivered two 62 ton bollard tugs to Ocean Sparkle Limited, an Adani Harbor Services Limited company and one 70 ton bollard tug to Polestar Maritime Limited, the first batch of tugboats with approval. Standard Tugboat Design and Specifications (ASTDS) promulgated by the Government of India for Indian ports.

UCSL also received additional orders for four 70-tonne bollard-type tugs as repeat orders from Ocean Sparkle Limited (three) and Polestar Maritime Limited (one).
