The court had ordered Udhayanidhi Stalin to appear before it on the basis of a complaint by social activist V Paramesha regarding his derogatory remarks on Sanatan Dharma.

The complainant claimed that the remarks made by Udhayanidhi Stalin had defamed him, his religion and people associated with Hinduism.

The court had taken cognizance of offenses under IPC sections 153 (intentionally giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 298 (intentionally uttering words etc. with intent to hurt religious sentiments) and 500 (defamation).
