New Delhi: Two tankers have been seized here for allegedly stealing water from Munak Canal. Police gave this information on Friday.

This came a day after the police started patrolling in the Munak Canal area to check the activities of the tanker mafia as the water crisis worsened in Delhi.

"We have seized two water tankers for stealing water from the canal. One tanker has been seized from 'Kachchi Sadar' near an agricultural area and the other from D-Block, DSIIDC. We have seized two water tankers under the Environment Protection Act at Bawana. “Two cases have been registered under the NIA police station,” said a senior police officer.

The official said 56 policemen are guarding the canal in shifts.

According to officials, police teams have set up pickets and are patrolling the 15-km long stretch of the canal on the Haryana border.

This canal enters Delhi from Bawana and reaches Haiderpur Treatment Plant.

Teams from Bawana, Narela Industrial Area, Shahbad Dairy and Samaypur Badli police stations have been assigned the task of patrolling the canal and surrounding areas.
