Akola, A police sub-inspector and a constable have been detained in Maharashtra's Akola district in connection with the custodial death of a 19-year-old man in January this year, an official said on Wednesday.

The two police personnel, attached to Akot city police station in Akola, were detained on Tuesday, while their two colleagues, both constables, were missing, he said.

He said that Sukhdev Harmakar, uncle of deceased Govardhan Harmakar, has lodged a complaint in this regard.

In his complaint, he alleged that his nephew Govardhan, who worked as a laborer in Akot, was arrested on January 15 by sub-inspector Rajesh Jaware and other policemen on suspicion of his involvement in some crime.

On January 16, she and Govardhan were beaten up at the police station, the complaint said, adding that Govardhan was attacked with a stick and brutalized, leaving him seriously injured. Was.Sukhdev said in his complaint that his nephew kept shouting at him for help but he was helpless and could not do anything to save him.

The complaint states that as Govardhan's health deteriorated, he was first taken to a private hospital in Akot and later to a hospital in Akola city instead of being taken to a government hospital. It was told that the young man died during treatment in the hospital the next day.

Sukhdev Harmakar directly approached the Inspector General of Police (IGP Ramnath Pokle) with his complaint against the policemen and based on the medical report of the deceased, a case was registered on charges of murder on 16 April.

“Subsequently, sub-inspector Jaware and constable Chandra Prakash Solanki were detained in connection with his death,” the police officer said. He said the case would be further investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).He said two more constables have been booked for their alleged involvement and efforts are on to trace them.

He said a case has been registered against the accused under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
