Mumbai: A 42-year-old man has been accused of allegedly posing as an employee of a private life insurance company and pressurizing him to pay Rs 1.34 lakh under the guise of settling the pending premiums of his insurance policy, a Mumbai Police official said. The police tracked down the accused pair, Shashikant Jadhav (35) and Ajit Kumar Amrutlal Yadav (30), a few days after they withdrew the money from the ATM kiosk, the officer said.

According to the complainant, the duo contacted him in April and claimed that they were calling from Reliance Nippon Life Insurance and told him that his policy premiums were due.

“They forced the complainant to transfer Rs 1,34,000 to their bank accounts,” the officer said. The victim then realized that he had been cheated when the duo stopped responding to his calls when he gave his policy details. Insisted on investigating."

During the investigation, the police collected details of the bank accounts where the money was transferred and traced the ATM kiosk in Thane from where they had withdrawn the money.

Two mobile phones and three debit cards were recovered from the possession of the accused, the officer said, adding that the duo were booked on Tuesday under sections 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (fraudulent and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and others.
