Thane: Two people have been booked for allegedly running a veterinary medicine manufacturing unit without necessary permissions at Talawali Naka in Bhiwandi township of Thane district. An official gave this information on Monday.

The Nizampura police station official said a case under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act was registered on the complaint of the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration, which had raided the unit on a tip-off on June 1.

He said that during the raid, items used in making veterinary medicines and their packing materials were seized, the total value of which is Rs 14.64 lakh.

"The two accused, who are yet to be arrested, did not have any permission to manufacture these medicines. They also did not have the educational and technical qualifications for the purpose," the officer said.

Bhiwandi Crime Branch Unit II assistant inspector Dhanraj Kedare said an investigation is underway to find out how they procured these items and to whom they sold the final products.
