Thane: Two senior citizens missing from their homes were reunited with their families by a Maharashtra-based organization using Google search to contact local authorities.

Mavjibhai Vaghri (70), who suffers from a mental illness, went missing from his home near Vadodara in neighboring Gujarat and was found in Nalasopara in Palghar district on September 14 and admitted to an ashram.

Volunteers and staff of Jeevan Anand Sanstha, an NGO working for the rehabilitation of underprivileged persons, used Google search after Vaghri mentioned the name of her locality and they were able to trace her family, a release said. Contacted the local police there.

It said Vaghri was reunited with his family the next day, on September 15.

Similarly, the organization also managed to trace the family members of Padi Goma Bhukre, a 70-year-old tribal woman who was reported missing in Panvel, Navi Mumbai, the release said.

Bhukre had mistakenly boarded a Mumbai-bound bus, where she was injured in an accident. After treatment, he was given shelter in the ashram of the organization on the night of 14 September.

The release said the organization used Google search to get the contact information of the sarpanch of Bhukre's village and his family was informed.

The two septuagenarians were said to have been reported missing by their families and their photographs circulated on WhatsApp also helped identify them.
