Mumbai: Two people were killed and three others injured when a speeding car driven by a 72-year-old man rammed into a two-wheeler at a traffic intersection in Maharashtra's Kolhapur city on Monday. Police gave this information.

Vasant Chavan, who was driving the car, sustained injuries in the accident that occurred at Rajarampuri around 2.15 pm and died of a heart attack, an official said.

CCTV footage of the accident surfaced on social media, showing Chavan's white car hitting some two-wheelers before stopping at a traffic intersection.

The officer said the deceased, who was on a motorcycle, was thrown into the air due to the impact.

He said that Chavan, a retired employee of Kolhapur University, was going to Rajarampuri at the time of the accident.

The officer said that the three injured persons are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.

Prima facie it appears that the injured car driver has suffered a heart attack. However, the exact cause of death will be known after the post mortem report comes.
