The accident, which was reported around 9 a.m. local time on the Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway, involved a pickup truck, a seven-seater and a 16-seater minibus, Xinhua news agency reported.

Two people, including the minibus driver, were confirmed dead on the spot. Ten others suffered serious injuries.

All three vehicles were seriously damaged.

According to preliminary investigation results, the accident occurred when the pickup truck and the minibus suddenly stopped in the middle of the fastest lane of the expressway after a minor collision. According to Vietnam News report, due to the sudden stop, the seven-seater vehicle behind drove past the parked vehicles.

According to the General Statistics Office, 5,343 people died and 9,552 others were injured in traffic accidents in Vietnam in the first half of 2024.
