A company spokesman said the explosion occurred Wednesday at the General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems plant in Camden, about 86 miles (138 km) south of the Arkansas capital of Little Rock, Xinhua news agency reported.
The company confirmed the explosion after initially calling it a "fireworks-related incident."
"At this time, we are working with first responders and can confirm that at least two people were injured and one person is missing as a result of the incident," General Dynamics said in a statement. He said he was cooperating with authorities in the investigation.
The company also confirmed production halted at the building where the explosion occurred.
