“Continuing with its efforts to eliminate drug menace from the society, the police have arrested two drug smugglers in Baramulla and recovered contraband from their possession,” the police said in a statement on Tuesday.

“A party from Police Station Kunjar led by SHO Kunjar stopped two persons, identified as Hashim Ahmed Mir and Aaqib Ahmed Shah, at a checkpoint established on the Mulgam-Awaloora link road,” the police said.

“During the search, 32 grams of banned hashish-like substance and a small digital scale were recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Kunzer police station where they are in custody,” it said.

“Accordingly, a case has been registered under relevant sections of law at Police Station Kunjar and investigation has been initiated. We urge the general public that if you witness drug trafficking or any other crime anywhere near you, do not hesitate to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112,” the police said in the statement.

“People are requested to cooperate with the police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We assure community members that the police will take strict action against criminals as per law,” the statement said.
