Bijapur: Two boys were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast planted by Naxalites in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. Police gave this information on Monday.

He said the blast took place in Bodga village under Bhairamgarh police station area on Sunday and relatives of the victims and villagers brought the bodies to Bhairamgarh on Monday.

This village is located more than 400 km from the capital Raipur.



According to preliminary information, Lakshman Oyam (13) and Boti Oyam (11) were plucking tendu leaves in the forest near the village when they came in contact with the IED, which led to the explosion, an official said.

"The Maoists had planted the IED to target security personnel in the area," he said.

Maoists plant IEDs on roadsides, unpaved tracks and in forests to target security personnel patrolling in the interior areas of Bastar region.

Police said citizens have fallen victim to such traps before too.

With this incident, five people have died in IED blasts at different places in Bijapur district in the last one month.

On May 11, a 25-year-old woman was killed in a pressure IED blast planted by Naxalites in Gangalur area of ​​the district while she was engaged in collecting tendu leaves, while on April 20, a man died in Gangalur. On April 12, a laborer engaged in road construction work in Mirtur area died.
