Meerut (UP), Two people allegedly involved in looting lakhs of rupees from a bank's collection agent were arrested after an encounter with the police here. Officials gave this information on Tuesday.

One of them was shot in the leg during an encounter in Meerut late on Monday night, while another person was caught while trying to flee the spot, he said.

Police said four people were allegedly involved in robbing a collection agent of Ujjivan Small Finance Bank on Bhola Road in TP Nagar. Police are searching for two other people.

Superintendent of Police (city) Ayush Vikram Singh said that on September 11, some people came on a motorcycle and allegedly looted around Rs 3 lakh from a collection agent and also snatched a tablet, a fingerprint scanner and a phone.

Police registered a case at TP Nagar police station based on the complaint of collection agent Prahlad Singh. The SP said that a police team has been formed to search for the accused.

The officer said that the police received information that two people involved in the robbery were planning to commit some other crime.

The police team reached Malyana-Bamba area and surrounded two people, who allegedly opened fire on them. The officer said that in the retaliatory firing, Bhim (24) was shot in the leg and was sent to the hospital for treatment.

The SP said that his associate Arjun (27) was also arrested from the spot.

On the basis of information received from the accused, one and a half rupees in cash were recovered. He said that the police have also recovered the motorcycle used in the robbery and a country-made pistol.

He told that the police is conducting raids to arrest his associates.
