New Delhi: Two people have been arrested for allegedly duping a jewelery showroom employee and absconding with three diamonds in exchange for them, police said on Wednesday.

Another person named Madhusudan Aggarwal (54) was also arrested for purchasing stolen diamonds from Sagar Gupta (37) and Chander Shekhar (44), he said.

This incident happened on June 6. A senior police officer said police reached a mall in Saket, where the showroom owner said Gupta had earlier purchased a diamond from his shop and he had believed her.

Police said Gupta went to the victim's shop two to three days ago and selected three diamonds to buy.On June 6, Gupta went to the shop with his colleague and showed interest in buying three diamonds. But he asked Karol Bagh to check the authenticity of the diamonds before making any payment, the official said.

The complainant handed over the diamonds to his employee and sent him along with the two accused. They took a taxi and on the way Gupta asked the employee to show him the diamonds. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan said the employee handed over the diamonds to him after his repeated requests.After some time, the accused returned the container to the employee and said that the diamonds were not genuine and he would not buy them. He asked the employee to get down from the car, police said.

The employee returned to his shop and informed the owner about the incident. He said that when the container was examined, three more stones were found in it.

During the investigation, the police examined the CCTV footage of the area and identified the accused.Later, Gupta was caught from Gurgaon and confessed to his crime along with his associate Shekhar. Chauhan said, Shekhar was also caught from Haridwar in Uttarakhand.

Police said it was revealed that they had sold the diamonds to Gupta's family friend Agarwal, who was also nabbed and the three diamonds were recovered from his possession.

Gupta used to deal in buying and selling of old gold and diamonds. Police said that Shekhar has been doing business of selling and buying diamonds on commission basis since 2012.
