The typhoon may come closest to the Amami area of ​​Okinawa Prefecture and Kagoshima Prefecture on Wednesday, Xinhua news agency reported.

It said winds of up to 54 km per hour are expected in the Okinawa region on Tuesday, with maximum gusts of up to 90 km per hour.

Up to 50 mm of rain is expected in the Okinawa region in 24 hours till Wednesday morning. According to the agency, up to 150 mm of rain may fall in the Amami region and 100 mm in the Okinawa region in the 24 hours until Thursday morning.

Weather officials said storm surge was expected in those areas through Thursday, urging people to be alert for high waves, strong winds, storm surge, landslides and flooding in low-lying areas.
