AGARTALA: The Tripura government will install underground power cable networks in some urban areas, including Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) areas, state Energy Minister Ratan Lal Nath said.

This initiative is being considered to avoid power cuts in urban areas during the monsoon season.

Nath told reporters on Sunday, "Tripura is cyclone prone. If a cyclone hits, it causes huge damage to power transmission above ground. To avoid power cuts during the monsoon season, we have to provide electricity to some urban Will work on laying underground cables in the areas.,

The areas that will be brought under the underground cable network include AMC (Agartala Municipal Corporation), Khumulwang in West district, Dharmanagar in North district and Udaipur in Gumti district.

The power minister said Rs 2,010 crore would be required to lay underground cable networks in these areas and the government would borrow the money to implement this ambitious project in the next two and a half years.

He said, "The work of underground cable network is difficult. We will take a loan to start this scheme and a company having expertise in laying underground cables will be engaged for this work."

Nath said the Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL) is considering taking action against consumers who are using AC machines without taking additional load from the concerned authority.He said, “A section of people use freezer and AC machines without prior permission from TSECL, which often leads to power cuts during the monsoon season. We are not against people using these electronic machines, but they should Need to get your existing load from the competent authority." ,

Nath appealed to the electricity consumers to get the 'excess load' checked by TSECL for the next ten days, otherwise the vigilance team will visit their homes and take legal action under the Central Electricity Act-2009.
