Agartala (Tripura) [India]: The Tripura government has sanctioned Rs 22 crore for farmers who suffered losses in Cyclone Midhili, state Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath said.

Ratan Lal Nath told ANI, "In November 2023, under the impact of Cyclone Midhili, farmers suffered huge losses. All types of crops like paddy, vegetables etc. were destroyed in the fields."

"After the cyclone, the agriculture department surveyed the state and sent our findings to the revenue department of Tripura. The department, after studying our reports, sanctioned funds worth Rs 22 crore, which are now directly deposited into bank accounts. Going farmers,” he said.

He said that more than 78,000 farmers of the state have been affected by Cyclone Midhili.

To compensate the losses suffered by the farmers, the state government has released Rs 22 crore through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

The minister also announced an increase in the wages of agricultural labourers.

"This is an important announcement. The wages of agricultural laborers were Rs 177 in the financial year 2017-18. The wages were revised six times in the last six years after the BJP came to power in Tripura. Overall, the people involved in this specific work An increase of Rs 224 has been approved. Recently, we have made another increase in the salary, which will be effective from July 1. The revised salary per day is now Rs 401," he said.
