Agartala, A delegation of the Tribal Congress, the tribal wing of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), on Tuesday met Chief Secretary JK Sinha and submitted a memorandum to him highlighting the concerns of the grand old party over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Saying that the CAA will adversely impact the demography of the state, the TPC has already announced that it will launch a massive agitation against the law.

Tribal Congress president Sabada Kuma Jamatia told reporters after the meeting, "Today, we met the Chief Secretary and submitted a memorandum to him highlighting the party's concerns over the implementation of the CAA. The Chief Secretary said he would send it to the law department. Will send to."

Noting that Tripura is surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides, he expressed concern over possible demographic changes in the state if the CAA is implemented.“Our small state witnessed large-scale infiltration from Bangladesh in 1971 and I changed the demographic profile of the border state. If this is repeated in 2024, not only tribals but also non-tribals will suffer. Therefore, We want the Center to immediately stop the implementation of the controversial Act,” he said.

The CAA aims to provide Indian citizenship to Hindus, Christians, Buddhist Parsis, Sikhs and Jains fleeing religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, if they entered India before December 31, 2014.Meanwhile, a day after senior Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman accused Tipra Motha of remaining silent on CAA implementation, regional party supremo Pradyot Debbarma on Tuesday claimed that he has always been fighting against the Act.

"It is Pradyot Kishor Debbarma who is fighting the legal battle against CAA in the Supreme Court, not Sudip Roy Barman... The Center has already promised that the Act will not be implemented in ADC (Autonomous District Council) areas in the state. K,” he said in an audio message.

Debbarma said the allotment of 'pattas' or land documents to the people of Tiprasa was included in the agreement signed with the Centre.

He said that a large number of Tiprasa people are living outside the Sixth Schedule areas and bringing them under the ambit of ADC is a point of agreement.
