Tripura Horticulture Department Assistant Director Deepak Baidya said that as a part of goodwill gesture, the Tripura Chief Minister sent Rani variety pineapples to the state.

He told that 500 kg pineapple 750 grams 100 containers.

"The Rani variety of pineapple is the best pineapple variety in the world. It had earlier received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag," Baidya told the media at the Agartala-Akhaura ICP adjacent to Agartala, the capital of Tripura.

He emphasized that the traditional relations between India and Bangladesh in general, and with the State of Tripura in particular, have always been excellent and deep.

"The sending of pineapples from our Chief Minister to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh is a symbolic gift as part of our friendship," the official said.

Earlier too, most of the Chief Ministers of Tripura had sent pineapples to Bangladeshi Prime Ministers, who in turn gifted delicious mangoes from that country.

Tripura has occasionally exported the Rani variety of pineapple to Dubai, Qatar and Bangladesh, facilitating business worth crores of rupees for the state's farmers.

Apart from pineapple, Tripura also exported several other fruits including lemon and horticulture products to the UK, Germany and several other countries, officials said.

Tripura produces 1.28 lakh tonnes of the two major varieties every year in 8,800 hectares of hilly plantations across the state and also exports pineapples and lemons to many countries and several Indian states for many years.

Former President Ramnath Kovind had declared the "Queen" variety of pineapple as the state fruit of Tripura at a function in Agartala in 2018.

Apart from pineapple, Tripura also exported large quantities of jackfruit, tamarind, stone apple, betel nut, ginger to UK, Germany, Dubai, Bangladesh and other countries as well as various Indian states.
