In its petition, Trinamool has urged the Election Commission to bar Gangopadhyay from addressing public meetings, holding road shows or giving interviews to the media.

Gangopadhyay's remarks were made at a public meeting in Haldia district on Wednesday. They were made public a few days later after a purported video surfaced online, in which Gangopadhyay can be heard wondering at what price CM Banerjee is being sold.

Trinamool has also requested the Commission to ensure that no other BJ leader makes such derogatory remarks about the Chief Minister in future.

“We have filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer against the indecent and objectionable comments made by Abhijit Gangopadhyay against the Chief Minister. “We hope that the Election Commission will punish them for their conduct and prosecute them under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code,” Minister of State Shash Panja told media persons on Friday.

In its letter to the commission, a copy of which is available with IANS, Trinamool said, "It is shocking that BJP candidates are stooping to such low levels of indecency, making indecent, unwanted, derogatory statements on a regular basis " A woman's honesty and honor are just to garner votes."
